User experience (UX) in autonomous vehicles is a growing area of research, focusing on issues affecting not only safety and engagement, but also consumer acceptance, trust and enjoyment of the autonomous experience.
UX investigations include research into ways to optimize driver situational awareness in autonomous vehicles, including in handover situations; evaluating multimodal driver information display needs and how they might differ from non-autonomous modes; and considering how we can improve user experience that affect acceptance, trust, complacency, and enjoyment
